I am need of a new watch band for my G-Shock. I would like something different than the factory band. Any suggestions for a hardcore watchband are welcome.

Good question. I believe that most G-shocks are 16mm? I would like to see one with a more comfortable nylon band myself. I would change the band on mine, but I'm not sure what options are available.

Which G-shock do you have?

I'm not sure if you will be able to find them in 16mm, but I have heard very good things about NATO straps and their high-grade cousins.

I usually just use standard leather straps, so I don't have any personal experience with these, but they look promising.

Real issue NATO straps are basicly a Nylon ribbon that is ultrasound welded around good quality buckles and keepers. It is for all practical purposes indestructable and will hold onto the watch even if one of the spring bars fails or falls out. If you choose these make sure you get an actual issue grade one, as there are a lot of junk bands with this basic design.

Other than the NATO straps there are also Waterbourne and Rhino straps that are essentially the same thing but made of heavier stuff.

Figure on about 20 bucks for a NATO and twice that for the others.

Many people also sell a nice Swiss rubber strap that comes on a stainless deployant clasp. They are smooth on one side and textured on the other. I got one of these to put on my beater watch and it has worked out great. Very comfortable and strong, still looks like new after being repeatedly soaked and beat up. Depending on where you buy they go from less than twenty bucks up to thirty five or so.

If you're handy with a blade you can make these fit any size watch since they won't fray or unravel if you cut back the lug area a bit to get some clearance.

I know, a Timex watch strap on a Casio G-Shock is sort of weird, but those Timex nylon/velcro straps that are made for the IronMan watches are pretty good, and they only run around $10-$12.

West Coast Time has NATO's for $14 + shipping. But they only go down to 18mm so you would have to be a little creative.

The only problem with those NATO straps is that they are so thin, that to put a big, thick Casio G-Shock on one of those would be like hauling a grand piano in the back seat of a Volkswagen Bug.:D.

Get a Chisco strap called "the Band." This is a very cool nylon band that has a portion that is thin enough to accept the G-Shock lug. The rest of the strap is wider to balance the watch.

Most straps that will fit the G-Shock are too thin and make the watch look stupid on the wrist, but the Band fits the bill nicely.

Another option of course, is to have the G-Shock lug channel milled to accept a wider strap. That's what I had done to this G-Shock. It now accepts a 20mm band:

Thanks Glockman99. Today at Target, I picked up a replacement band for a Timex Expedition. It is exactly like the Ironman band, with the wraparound velcro design. It fits My G-shock perfectly. I guess I'll have to get over thefact that it says timex on it. I don't know what model my G-shock is. It looks just like this one. I picked it up at Costco in a very generic package for $29.99, if some one knows the model number, please let me know.

First of all..Hello, been a long time since Ive posted anything here on the forums...Never left, just mostly just read em now, But this post hit home with me...I have several G-Shocks which Ive had the same problem...trying to find a replacement for the ones which come with them.

My answer after trying many was to quick looking and just make my own. I use a standard sewing machine and do most of the sewing by turning the wheel by hand. Its takes about 20min to make one.

I did all my first ones with velcro then switched to the buckle type which I like better, they are "fixed" to fit only my wrist size.

Picture wont come through...Try this link

Kdarmy- Very nice work. I like those small buckles. Those watchbands look like they will last forever. I'll take two- one OD/black and one black. The only problem is you don't know my wrist size.
