hey gang
so, i've got a Dragon Lord knife from Hibben's fantasy knife series (or rather, i have one of the factory reproductions)

Now, I've go no idea what level of quality there is in this knife, and I don't care.

What I want to do is try and find this knife but "functional", made without all the fantasy snarls and hooks.
Anyone got an idea where I can find it? Or do I need to start hitting up custom shops?

Well depends what you want, if you just want a fixed blade with a recurve SOG might have that..
If you want a fancy functional knife, better hit the custom shops!

Its nothing but fantasy snarls and hooks! What do want to retain from its design in this functional knife you are looking for?

It can be done by a custom shop but it's going to cost you a good amount of money I imagine

basically, take a pencil and trace the knife. replace all hooks with a solid edge.

that CRKT above you is almost exactly right

i'll have to check it out... in my quest! my QUEST FOR A KNIFE I WON'T USE BUT REALLY REALLY WANT! *dramatic theme*

Um, you want to replace the fantasy knife that you can't use with a real knife that you won't?

Check out other Hibben designs. There is a fighting knife that probably meets your criteria.

You know, looking at the starting knife and squinting one eye, the curve of the blade and hilt and the blade profile look a Javanese blade I saw in a book. The Philippines are also known for knives with all sorts of curves and protrusions, and there are a couple of good sellers out there with website-rich pictures. I don't know if they are members, so I can't really post their sites but a little google fu will find them quick. If what you really want is a sweet curve from butt cap to point, the guys who make kukris have some really nice stuff--not all kukris are brute force choppers, there are some nimble slicer models too. Himalayan Imports have a nice product line, have their own subforum here, and their fanbase seems devoted. The one thing that might be a serious sticking point to off the shelf is the knuckle guard, I have only seen that a few times. Good luck! I do wonder if Marco noticed that there is a Nice, France. Never been there myself, but I did have a few beers in Silly, Belgium.

I got the knife in Greece on the island Corfu, says handmade in greece on the blade but it was only 25euro so dont know how legit the handmade part is.
Probally isent the best steel but it came hair shaving sharp and had a nice leather sheath.
If you ever go to Greece look for shops with handmade woodstuff, mostly they also got a knife section.

"Nice" is the name of a french city. It are were being an joke. Hooray!

Oh, that guard is hilarious. If you ever pick up one of these at a renfair or something, you'll see what I mean: It actively guides into your hand. Like, a normal straight guard of around half an inch, not much protection, but the other knife (fantasy knife combat for fantasy knives! FANTASTIC!) will stop.
This, knife? you'll get your pinky chopped off. its gone. forever. The pinky gremlins came and stole it to make puppets. and soup. Never see it again.
