Replacing handle material?

How difficult and time consuming would it be for a knifemaker to remove Micarta slabs from an integral, tapered tang knife and replace them with a different type of handle material? Knife has two 5/16th inch stainless pins, a lined thong hole, and no buttcap.

Is it possible to do this without damaging or destroying the knife?
