Replacing inlay on Sebenza?

I have been looking to purchase a large classic but am having a tough time finding both the inlay and damascus pattern I would like on one knife. So my question is this: If I find a damascus pattern I really like but it has an inlay I don't, will CRK replace the inlay? I know this is probably the least cost effective way of going about this, but I can only imagine the lead time to order a damascus knife from CRK.

Thanks
Brian

I'm sure they will. Seems I've read they've done so in the past. But why not just order from them exactly what you'd like? They are very accommodating and special/custom orders are their forte!

Hi Brian,

Yes, CRK will replace the inlay. I had it done on one of my large classic Sebenzas.

If you want to take a chance on liking the damascus pattern, you can order a damascus Sebenza with an inlay you prefer, direct from CRK.

Thanks guys, it's good to know they will replace the inlay if I can't find what I want. Does anyone have any recent experience as to what the lead time might be on an order directly from CRK? I assume the main factor would be their supply of damascus from Devin Thomas. It's just that I'm not very good at the waiting game I guess......

Heather (from CRK) told me recently, that the waiting time for damascus blades was about 9 months..... :o

CRK had my had my large classic raindrop damascus ready in roughly 6 months. That was about a month earlier than expected.

Some types of damascus may be more available than others. The same is likely true for the different inlays.

First thing that pops into thought is: is business that good or is supply that limited (of damascus)?

 6 to 9 months..... That was what I was afraid of. I'm sure it's a combination of both....business is good and damascus is probably limited, esp. since they almost exclusively use Devin Thomas from what I have read.

It there is a particular Devin Thomas damascus you like (maybe one that CRK doesn't use as often), it would be interesting to see if Mr Thomas would sell you a bar large enough for CRK to turn into a blade. Maybe it would speed things up a little?
