Replacing inlays

Hello friends.

I have seen talk of this idea on several instances but never in great detail.

Have many of us sent in our favorite inlayed knife after some great use, or perhaps second thoughts, to have the inlays changed altogether? My particular interest would be finding out if anyone sent their knife in after mammoth production was suspended and asked for an ivory or bark inlay for a knife formally containing one of their many woods.

As always, I'm very grateful for all of your thoughts, and merry Christmas/happy holidays to all.

The ivory ship has sailed..unfortunately, it will likely not return. To my knowledge, they won't replace inlays on a whim.
The only alternative is to find one someone is willing to part with either on the exchange, FB group or other venue..
Of course, you may be able to talk a 3rd party into creating an inlay to R&R for you..

Thanks bhyde. I just had my box elder in the spa to get double thumb studs and the issue came up of polishing the titanium and replacing the scales for a price that I cannot remember. It did not occur to me to inquire about asking for different inlays, so I thought I'd go to the experts here.

Anyone with a mammoth inlays ask for new ones lately?

Interesting..I will inquire about replacing inlays when I am there next week. This seems to be a change of policy from what I remember, but anything is possible.

I wouldn't mind knowing about the Ivory..but am skeptical that they would considering;

1) current state of ivory bans (need to keep the politics out of this)
2) stock on hand for break/fix IF they even have it in stock.

And Bill works- bhyde seems so....formal? ;)

I would think they had to have kept a stock for replacements but of course have no real knowledge of their inventory.

Can't wait to hear what you find out Bill.

Very best.

Since we're talking about it, check out the recent date on this mammoth Mnandi:

To my knowledge they never said "we don't make any more mammoth." They said "we do not accept ORDERS for mammoth any longer". So maybe the one you are showing the birthcard is the fullfilment of an old dealer backorder? Or maybe a reissued birthcard where they forget to note "reissued"? Just guessing, of course.

James you are rigth. They fulfill previous order. I know for sure since it was told me from CRK when I was looking for a special grain mammoth bark

Must be. 3 bark and 2 ivory, all small Sebenza, just arrived at one of the online stores and the shop owner told me recently that they have backorders with CRK, dating back 2, 3 years. I think CRK is trying to fulfill these backorders as long as their stock on mammoth lasts.

This is partly the reason I posed the question. Thank you very much for the information.
