Replacing knife scales

This is my first attempt at replacing the knife scales on a 3-blade pocket knife. There is only one center pin that had to be removed. Are there any helpful suggestions for attaching the new wood scales (epoxy) ? How do I make sure that the knife blades will open freely after I re-assemble the knife. Finally, where can I purchase brass pins? Thanks

I often buy brass pin stock at the local Ace or True Value hardware stores.

As far as making sure you have enough room for the blades to open & close freely, you need a slackner tool. These are easily home made by taking a .014 in. feeler gauge (leaf type) and cut a slot in the end about 1/4 inch wide and 3/4 to 1 inch deep.

Slide the slackner around the pin & between the inner liner & the blade and peen or press your pins sight. After you remove the slackner the blades should open & close properly.

I hope this helps,
Dale
