yo;

my faithful Leatherman's main blade has copped a pounding over the years.

i'm just wondering if it's possible to get a new one? possibly made out of a better steel than the original.

it doesn't need replacing immediatly.

thanks in advance for your help.
sambo.

All LMs have a 25 year warranty, so you can send it back to them and they will replace it for you. However, I dont know about a better steel... it will more likely be the same steel.

if you send it back to leatherman they will probably use a blade from the newer wave which is 420HC. If you want a better blade steel you could get a Charge TTi, it has an s30v blade.

If you send it in for repairs and are attached to the orig wave, make sure to send a note along with the wave that states that if it can not be repaired, you would like it sent back to you. If they feel that they can't repair it, they will likely send you the newer version as a replacement.

people have replaced blades themselves with better steels and even different shapes but they had access to machinery! it can be done but they don't sell replacements so you have to "scavenge" or make them yourself.

I'd suggest returning it and using their warranty also.

Any Wave that I have sent in for repair got replaced with a new one. Thats evwen with a note saying I would like it repaired. I think its just eadier for them to replace and put the old one in scrap.
