Replacing scales on a old Case Congress???

I inherited my father-in-laws Case Congress knife. Knife has excellent walk and talk but on one side the scales are missing. Can anyone help me with how to replace the scales or who would do a good job of replacing them for me? I would like to make this my everyday carry since it holds so much meaning to me since he has passed away. Thanks!

If sending it to Case, be VERY SPECIFIC about what you want done, and what NOT to do to that knife. If not specific, Case may sometimes be inclined to 'fix' things you don't want fixed, or even replacing the knife at their discretion (and they won't send your knife back, if replacing it with another). They might not view the repair as cost-effective anyway, in which case they should just send it back to you (but make sure they know you want it back in 'as is' condition). The Case web page for repairs is linked below. Very old & well-used knives wouldn't be covered under warranty, so there'd likely be a fee involved.

Now there's an answer! Thanks for filling in all the blanks to my original answer David...I definitely learned some things here too that I didn't know. I'll keep this in mind should I have to send one back to Case in the future.

There've been some 'horror stories' posted in the Traditional forum occasionally, in instances where a particular 'old' knife with good ol' CV/carbon blades got 'repaired' with current-generation parts, like stainless blades, which weren't asked for in the first place. That's why it's good to be very specific about what is wanted for the 'repair', and what will not be acceptable.

Not faulting Case for attempting to do what they think best (they do good work), but everybody needs to be on the same page about what's expected. ;)

Thanks for all of the info so far! I already sent it to Case and they said it was something they wouldn't repair but would replace the knife. I asked them to send it back instead. The knife is in excellent condition minus the missing scale. Is there any custom maker that might do these kind of repairs? I hate for this knife not to be brought back to it original condition. This is the large congress pattern that Case doesn't make anymore with carbon steel blades. Any further suggestions?

Might post in the 'Wanted...Services' forum linked below. I think, as a registered user, you'll initially not see any posts there, as viewing all posts in that sub-forum is blocked to non-Knifemaker members. Only members with a Knifemaker's/Craftsman membership may reply to or view all posts in that forum, but I think any registered BF member can make an initial request for work needed. You might find some help there. If you have trouble accessing it, you might contact the Mods for assistance in getting your request posted in the right area.
