My Pentagon Elite I has had problems with rust and I would like to replace it with something else as an EDC. Can anyone recommend something similar in size and everything else? I did enjoy the knife so want something similar. thanks

I like the Benchmade 940! If you want to stick with SOG the Vulcan is REAL NICE! I think you would really like the 940 better. GOOD LUCK! Kevin

I'd say the Benchmade 530. It has an axis lock, which is similar to the arc-lock you are used to (but much better), and a similar dagger-style blade.

But first, have you tried removing the rust? You can get some good advice here on that as well.

i just ordered a spec I for my new edc piece, i got it for a great price ($55 BNIB) and i couldnt resist. how did the thing rust on you? ive handled them in a couple of shops and the actions on them were smooth as glass.

Is not the knife fault! :)

If you want to get rid of the rust problems, just be sure not to choose a beadblasted bladed knife
(is that sentence ok?)

I want to sand mine to a satin finish, I'll tell you how it goes if I do it.

Sorry for my english :o

I dont know how it rusted. Ive never used it only looked at it lol. But ive oiled it etc several times but still many small rust specks. so bead-blasted is always going to be rust prone?

Yes rust is more likely to occur with bead blasted blades. Something to do with the bead blasting process creating micro pits or something along those lines.

Anyway, where did it rust? Close to the pivot area or somewhere more visible?

If you are into dagger type folders, BM530 mentioned earlier is a good alternative. There's also the Gerber Applegate one

Yes it is, johnu2 explain it well

I live in the tropics, and I ended staying away from beadblasted knives. Or sanding mines :p

It rusted on both sides of the blade. just little specs along the blade that sometimes get worse but if i oil it itl get better for a little bit but then go back. This isnt covered under warranty right?

how rugged is the 530? It seems really thin. Also any good for self defense? (ok its a knife so it'l cut. but how good maybe would be better question)

Im sure this is a dumb question: but is there something similar to the 530, but larger?

the 551 looks good as well

and to go slightly off topic how hard would it be to carry a Fallkniven G1?

Rust isn't covered under SOG's warranty unfortunately

You could try the Camillus Cuda Maxx Stiletto, but its a monster! It might be a little hard to find though.

Laws differ between state to state. Try asking in the "Knife Laws" section regarding double edge knives

no I mean physically how hard would it be to carry?

Oh, are you talking about how difficult it is to carry concealed or for comfort? Its pretty small and compact so I imagine it won't be too difficult at all. The stock sheath doesn't look like it'll allow IWB carry though
