Are there counterfeit knives being sold as the real thing? Sometimes when I see a substantially discounted price I wonder if the knife is "real" or a knockoff. Is it safe to buy from a dealer on eBay, for example? How about a knife shows? Or should I stick to the bigger retail outlets?

Yes is the simple answer

for example the UK ebay has many knives sold as global. Many of these are a set contained in a case and Global doesn't even make that set. There are a lot of fake bowie knives about as well.
