Anyone ever buy replica watches from a website?

I would love to have a nice panerai or bell and howell. I don't need the brand name but like styling.

Not to be a dick....but that is theft....and by purchasing, you contribute to it.

yeppers, same up and get a real one and keep it for years or get one more in your budget. I place value on things by their worth to me not what other folks think is trendy.

I snaked this from another forum.

An old man picked up a lady of the night and took her to a motel and began to get undressed. The lady of the night turned to him and giggled saying “who do you think you are going to please with THAT?” to which the old man replied “My self, who did you think?”

The moral of the story is don’t buy a watch to impress other people.

I had a faux Rolex some years back , looked and felt like the real thing , got it for $75 , sold it for the same amount about a year later after the newness and novelty wore off.

Did I feel guilty about owning a replica ?

Considering it was a replica of a $4000 watch , not in the least.

Now I just stick with my trusty $50 Timex. :D

I value things how they look not by the brand. Also for for a throw away to see if you like a style of watch before you plunk down 10x as much for the "real" thing.

I could give rats butt who made it as long as it looked "cool" or different.

I thought these might somehow be legal, by claiming replica. Like a kit car. I was trying to find something in their faq's on their websites or warning on timezone etc.

Guess I'll keep buying the watches at Dakota or fossil. when I get bored with them throw them away.

do you mean bell & ross? which models in particular do you like. there are probably some nice, less expensive alternatives out there. what is your price range?

I like the square watches that look like they are taken out of aircraft.

Plain faces. I have a russian made german observer watch that I'm looking to replace.

As my sainted father used to say, "The joy of low price is quickly forgotten amidst the disappointment of low quality."

Besides, a "replica" watch speaks very poorly about the man who wears it. I can greatly respect for a man who wears a $25 Timex. But a man who wears a $250 Fauxlex? No.

John Ruskin quote

A jeweler friend of mine used to keep a plaque on the wall with this quote.
My friend did a substantial business selling Rolex.

I spent a sum (that, a few years ago, I could never have afforded) on a new Omega. It constantly brings me pleasure, because it doesn't just look like a superb watch, it is a superb watch. I can count on it to keep superb time, expect the sapphire to remain unscratched, and send it in for a service in ten years. If I tire of it, I can expect its resale value to be good.

A friend of mine bought a fake Omega Planet Ocean in China. It's almost indistinguishable from the real thing... but the bracelet broke a few months after he got it. He doesn't have anywhere to send it to get it fixed!

I waited until I could afford it, then bought the real deal, and I'm happy with my decision.

Larry S and Gollnick: I love your quotes!

i would rather have a seiko monster than ANY replica watch, a bud had a fake rolex and it was a turd , if ya washed your hands it would fog the crystal, kept horrible time, not even serviceable imho.

i would pass on them, FWIW i have seen fakes in mexico for ~$25.

point being, to me it isnt that they are ripping off rolex, its the simple fact that they are crap.

I would agree for anything you are going to keep. But something just to toss?

I would love the watches without the brand names. Just as I toss a dakota or timex when bored with it (battery dead).

If it was design that I would keep forever, I would buy the "real" thing. But for a fad? Never.

But is it ethical to stuff landfills with cheap, made-in-China, replica watches just because you grew bored with them or because of fads?

I'm not much of an environmentalist, but I do believe that we should all try to reduce the amount of waste we generate. This is simple to do and has an immediately and obvious and unquestionable benefit. It's not hard to do either. Buy products that are high-quality, that you will not quickly grow bored with, that will last and give good service for many years, that can be repaired if it does break, and that you can sell or trade to someone else if you decide you no longer want it and that can then give the next person years of quality service.

A watch is a small thing, true, but this philosophy should be applied throughout your whole life. Buy quality things that will give many years of good service and which can be maintained and repaired if necessary rather than just tossed in the landfill.

I couldn't afford the premium watches but I wanted a Mechanical Diver's watch. Found a Seiko one for $300. It doesn't have the fancy name but it's the real deal and runs good. So rather than a fake, how about finding a quality maker in your price range?

Is it ethical to waste thousands of dollars on something for myself and a bauble that in a year I wont want? Or waste a hundred and spend the rest on my family?;)

I agree on buying quality. But only on thing that I need, not on things that are just "wants".

My Stethescope at work is a Littman cardiology III. My Otoscope/opthalmoscope I bought in PA school is a Welch Allyn. The balisong i flip around for giggles and grins? $12.

When you buy tools or thing that your life depends on buy the best and cry once at the price. Toys? I have different philosophy on that. Make no doubt a watch falls into jewelry/toy category in my life.

People that wear false rolexs to impress people fall into the same category as those that buy real ones to impress people. (except they are in the frugal subset of people trying to put on airs).:D

I dont care what brand you wear, but life is too short to wear an ugly watch.

I agree to some extent about the people who buy fake and the people who wear real, but if a person can afford real,he should have the right to flaunt it.I don't agree with the part about people who wear fake are just frugal,I've seen to many who try to make people believe that it's the real deal.
In an earlier post you said that, you would buy fake to see what it would be like compared to the real thing, trust me there is no comparison. The fakes aren't any better than the $3.00 watches that you buy at a flea market when you take the cover off.

You can either buy a Seiko or Citizen or Alpha (Not to put Alpha in the same park as Seiko or Citizen) that makes a watch that looks similar to the real watch you are interested in. Or you could buy the real watch, keep the box and papers and when you get bored with it sell it for most of what you have in it.

Either way you would have a good watch and only be out a few hundred dollars.

The comparison I was alluding to is size. 42 mm is 42mmm wether it cost you 100 or 10000
