Hey guys!

Any of you have any tips for re-polishing the blades on a Victorinox SAK? I have a Trekker that has a blade with several light scratches on it and I was wondering if there was a way I can re-polish the steel so as to bring it back to its mirror-like finish. Even close to mirror finish would be good enough.

You got any tips? Any compounds needed? Can it be done by hand?

Thanks all.

To put a mirror polish on stainless, there are probably a number of ways, but this is mine. Start with a sandpaper appropriate for the size of the scratches and wet sand. Typically for me this is 400. I then go to 600/800/1000 and then I use a dremel tool with a cotton wool buff and green polishing compound. After that its so shiny it's basically a mirror, which is shinier than they come. If you dont need an actual mirror finish you'll probably be happy with a high grit sandpaper finish.

Thank you for your reply.

Educate me a bit more though. Would Turtlewax Polishing Compound work? I really have no clue regarding these things so bear with me. :D I only ask because Turtlewax is the easiest polishing compound for me to acquire.

Thank you!

Buy a tube of Flitz metal polish and that should do it all by itself. Just put a tad bit on a paper towel and buff the area by hand using moderate pressure for about a minute or so. That alone usually will bring most small scuffs and scratches out the blades of my SAK's.

Mother's Mag Wheel polish from the auto part's store or Walmart is very much like Flitz, and is not spendy. I use it to up-shine just about everything, using a rag or q-tip.

Also good results with Flitz, which so far has cost me nothing since it came from a trial sample. Having it on hand is the only reason I bothered polishing the blade of my OHT. There's some compound left over, but when it's used up, that will be it. I don't really care if a working tool looks like new, so long as it performs.

Woohoo! My Trekker looks real shiny now. :D Thanks for all the help folks!

Congratulations. Which of the suggestions did you follow?

I just bought some stainless steel polish and went to town on the knife with a synthetic rag. :) It was simpler than I expected despite not being able to acquire the specific brands you guys suggested, which I'm sure would have been better. Thanks all!
