It's hunting season again!!!!!! The weather has been fair, the morning air is crisp and clear and I get to stalk various creatures with a rifle. Life just doesn't get much better than this.

That being said I field dressed a whitetail this morning. While the bulk of the work was done with my Spyderco Wegner (best folding knife on the market) I removed the head and the lower legs with my Shop 1 15" Ang Kohla. Hacking through all that heavy bone left my AK unfazed. It did dull the edge some but it was still chopping sharp. No chipping, no impaction, no nothin' but severed body parts. I have many khuks but my 1st, my Shop 1 15" Ang Kohla is still my favorite. It just refuses to be damaged.

For serious chopping you just can't go wrong with an AK. My overall favorite chopping tool is a Sher-made 18" AK.

Jaegar, how many blows did it take to go through the deer leg?

I believe that 3 of the legs came off with 1 chop. The bone was cut about half way through. The rest of it shattered. I think that I had to give an extra slice to a couple of the legs to detatch a little remaining skin. The carcass was still suspended when I did this. I pulled each leg over and rested it on the trunk of the tree from which the deer was suspended. One good, powerful overhand swing was all it took. The neck took a bit more work but I was chopping at an odd angle and couldn't get much power into the swings. The edge was shaving sharp at the outset. After I was through it was still scraping sharp. It is one fine blade!
