:
Just wanted to let the gang here know that we made it back to our home in Catoosa at about 5:30 p.m. today.
We had an uneventfull tri, except for almost geting creamed by a van that didn't pay attention when they started to pull out to pass. We were right beside it and the POS didn't look obviously. :D
But I didn't even flip 'em off, just kept driveing and paying attention to What I was doing.:)

It's hotter than I don't know what here with little or no rain is sight. The lawn is burnt too a crisp and if Barb doesn't water it the dayumed thing won't need mowing again this year.:)
Barb asked why the furnace was running and I had to explain that the plenum chamber was so hot that the fan had kicked on. Then she found a rather large fancy candle that we'vehad n the frnt window for about 4 years bent over into a pretty shapeless puddle.
The A/C has been on high since we got in and it's still plenty dayumed hot.

We're both really tired, I didn't even read all the new posts made since we've been on the road.
Gonna hit the bed really soon in spite of the heat, maybe bring the air matrress into the living room.
Last year when we were in Phoenix it was cooler there in July than it was here.
Global warming is alive and well it appears.

Take care and I'll see y'all tomorry.:D

Main thing is you're off the slab with the same number of body parts you started with - an accomplishment nowadays, even if they are saddlesore :D

'Bout time! ;)

Glad you made it back safe.

Take care of yourself and Barb first. Alright?

------------------------------------------------

Now, I've been waiting for you to get back.

I've got the rock. How the blazes do I attach it to the stick. For my war club, er, cane.

I figure on using a blind hole in the rock ( an agate egg 3" long and 2" wide ) and a 5/16ths threaded rod epoxied into the rock and cane, but where do I go from there? I figure I can grind a 1" wide groove maybe a 1/4 inch deep and then glass a thin reinforcement around the egg and down the shaft. Then glue rawhide over it, continuing down the shaft and wrapping the shaft tightly with rawhide lace. When it dries, sand til roughly even, dye, and then finish the dried and shaped rawhide with a superglue coating. Oh, and any suggestions for the wood to use for the shaft? Actually, I'm considering alternating 4 or 5 inch sections for the shaft, so I can drill the whole length of the shaft out and continue the threaded rod the whole length. :D :D :D

Welcome back. I'm headed out to San Francisco in a few hours, to a Chinese Red Egg and Ginger party for a new nephew. It's the traditional party held after a baby has stuck it out through the first month of life. I'm looking forward to a cool blanket of drippy fog, a respite from what I believe is the same big red ball of heat you're sitting under in Catoosa. Catch you later,

Glad to hear you made it back without incident, Bro. I'll be contacting you today via email

I hope it cools down before convention time! Brother Fred up in Girard has registered the same complaints about that midwest weather. Said his latest elect. bill was $250 and still didn't stay cool with AC running 24 hours per day.

Welcome Back Buddy! Oh, and don't worry about your lawn you are not alone, mine is also cooked to a crisp!!!:D

:
I'm starting to get caught up now. A good nights sleep, only up twice last night, does a world of good when a person is in their own home.
Barb and me was talking and wondering if we Really wanted to be gone 3 months over the winter.
We'll see when the time comes I guess.:)

Rusty it sounds as if you're building your warclub, er cane strong enough to stop an Abrams as it is.
If you epoxy a steel shaft into the egg that should be enough to hold it by itself.
But if you want it stronger just wet about a 1 1/4" inch wide strap of Real heavy Rawhide and stretch it, it will come down to about 7/8" to 1" wide and then put it overthe top of the egg and then wrap it down the handle.
If you cut a piece long enough to cover the whole shaft by wrapping it the hande will be strong enough to last forever!!!! Actually it probably doesn't need to be real heavy rawhide, deerskin would probably work.
The original part of the Mormon Tabernacle still has the original rawhide joints around the timebers, seems there was a shortage of iron for spikes back then, and it's about 200 years old I think?
The Mormons have never had the need to improve on what the old timers built.:D

Haven't checked my mail yet Bro, but I will as soon as I'm done here.:)

THAT NDN IS BACK!"Well there goes the neighberhood", no more peace & quiet, nothing but trouble! grumble, mutter!!Now I get blamed for everything "BAD" again!!
jim

Just got spoilled from posting from a really fast computer.:D
Just wait until I get one.

And speaking of computers......
Sam's Club has a Hewlett Packard for about a $1,000.00 that has a CD Burner as well as DVD on it.
Pentium 4 too I believe as well.
I have an HP Printer and have been very happy with it.
I can't recall all the details, but I think it has something like 124 mgs f one thing and pretty high on the other important feature.
I know that as soon as I buy a new one that it will be obsolete, but with what's out there today it should last me a few years.
I really like the idea of the CD burner and this one allows rewriteing of a CD.
Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

They have another one with less memory and such for a couple of hundred less, but it doesn't allow rewriteing a CD and that's something I would like to be able to do.
I don't think it had the DVD either.

Hi Yvsa, Glad to hear you had a good trip and visit despite the __________ van driver. Glad you and your Misses are OK. About that HP computer, I may be incorrect now as fast as things change, but the last info I had on HP computers was they are not to good. They make great accessories. I have a HP printer and a scanner they are both excellent. I don't Know if you have a Best Buy out your way but I bought a Compaq 5000T last March. It has a CD burner CDRW, 52 GB hard drive, 128 MB Ram(I upped that right off to 192)It has a Pentium III processor with 950 MHz.( the MHz is close I don't remember exactly. Anyway it was around a thousand bucks. I would also recommend the extended warranty from them depending on how many years you get you can take the computer back at a future date to trade in for another one and get full price value on your old one for a upgrade so you only have to pay the difference, if there is any. I did it, my first machine(and I mean first) wasn't all that great I was having one problem after another so I took it in and now I is Happy. You know Dell has some really good deals they are well worth investigating. They were the first company I approached and happen to get a A hole salesman who gave me the impression that they only sold computers for above $4000. WRONG! Check them out. Take Care!Glad you all are back. :D

Dell has a $999 Special running now. The kid in the TV ad is so obnoxious he might be the offspring of Gary's salesman, but the deal is great, as is Dell's CS.

GHEEEESH! Next thing you know, Yvsa will be out looking to score some DSL :D

With regards to the 'proprietary brands' available; The questions to answer are 1) Quality of the warranty/service agreement your buying with it (since usually, you'll invalidate that if an unauthorized person breaks the seal on the 'box' and tries to work on it). 2) Is it upgradable (can you at least have some more memory or perhaps a faster CPU installed in the future -by their techs of course)? 3) The quality of the inside parts being used. Most proprietary brands subcontract/use motherboards built by someone else. This is good. Just find out who built the motherboard the system runs on and what 'chipset' they're using. This will tell you alot about the quality of the PC. All these questions are designed to point you toward something that will last an easy 4-5 yrs. before you have to think about spending more $$$ on it. Then hopefully you'll just have to upgrade a few pieces to last another couple years. Don't believe all that 'obsolete stuff' hype, it doesn't really apply to what most people use their PCs for. OH-OH-OH, last thing... Don't know if this kind of deal is still around or not "buy THIS and recieve $400.00 off the price when you subscribe to OUR ISP/network services for 2 yrs.". DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM. The internet service you'll be chained to for two years will have your ire/blood pressure through the roof in no time at all!!! Yeah, DELs are at least worth your time to comaprison shop with any other brand IMHO.

Thanks for more good help. And, Bro, if you don't find the deal you want we better contract Travis. He can put together a computer for you which will have the same specs for a lot less money.

:
I don't kow what I'll come home with and may not get one on the 1st time out.

And since we have cable TV I am gonna check into a cable modem and service as well as the DSL.
I did talk to one of our local phone companies about a 56K hookup and their DSL comes with an ISP.
I don't think I like that too well, jst a not good feeling I get so I will probably steer clear of that.

And Bro if you'll send me Trav's phone number I may just give him a call and see what can be done.
Since I have finally decided to go with a real computer I want one that will kick some A$$ since I have been on a slow boat to the internet for so long.
Comparing one daughtrs old computer to the webtv is about like comparing the webtv to our other daugghter's computer.
I got spoiled with the speed and the mousepad as well as some other features.:D
