I have heard some people reprofile their ak47's
Does it make it a better user ? I Just picked up my first one, only a bg but was thinking of stripping and sending out to have someone reprofile a bit.
For those that use their ak's what is your opinion??

I've had one and several other swords but just collected them. I'd suggest using it before reprofiling and see if it's sufficient.. If you're not going to use it no point in the expense and loss of value.

I agree with Murman, if you are not going to use it, I would leave as is. my .02.

Here is my Banned AK47. I cannot adequately describe to you how awesome this blade is!!:)

It's beautiful! Forgive my ignorance but what does banned refer to?

I think I will use mine, woukd like to , but have lots of new things sitting in the gun safe I thought I would use lol. I have 200 acres with lots of trails and bush so I will try to make myself take it out!!

Thanks guys. Ban's work is fantastic. It totally transforms the blade into a lean, mean slicing machine!:D

I also have a re-profiled AK done by Norcalblacktail and a Busse Custom Shop blade that Garth did for me. Both just as nice.

A pics of two of my favourite Busse's that Norcalblacktail did for me..........(the TT Zilla is a scary sharp beast!)

Every time I see one of these all I can think of is John Belushi and the "Samurai Deli"

^^^ a second question to go with clampdaddy's... do you find it cuts significantly better with the reprofile or just slightly ??

I don't have an AK, but I've reground and/or reprofiled a lot of blades. In pretty much every case I'd say the blade cuts significantly better after thinning.

Of course exactly how much better will depend on how much the geometry was changed. The risk is that if too much material is removed, it may slice like a laser, but the scope of use is reduced and the blade/edge may be more prone to failure (and the warranty may be voided).

I would say it’s pretty significant, I’ve cut some cardboard boxs before and after. It’s slices through cardboard like butter now where before it kinda tore through. I convexed mine on a 1x30 and didn’t remove much material at all, I’d estimate I spent thirty minutes tops on the edge.

That is awesome! Mind if I ask how you did the hamon line like that?

I don’t mind at all. It’s a mustard patina, I just smeared the mustard along what I know a hamon to look like. It has faded with use, but it’s just a smear of mustard away from being back. :D

So this mustard thing I've seen mentioned quite a bit - Lot of mustards out there HAHA! ... just good old yellow sht? and how long do you leave it on for that look? That looks really good man -
