I reprofiled the edge of my Greco Whisper folder to a lower angle. The blades on these are very thick. I do like this folder. It's unique. Anyway, the thick blade was sharp, but I wanted it a little thinner and sharper. So using my Lanskey with some diamond hones I reprofiled it to 20 degrees each side. It worked well, and is now so sharp that I like carrying over my BM 806D2. I had to order a new pouch though as the one that came with the Greco is not so great. The velcro closure is not secure. I ordered on of these pouches. http://www.specopsbrand.com/assets/product_html/prod_supersheath.html

I'm interested to see how the edge holds up on this steel.

Glad you like the Greco. I've got two of them which also benefited from a little thinning. I've beaten on the hawksbill enough to be able to say that edge will stay sharp a long time.

It's also one of the few folders that you can use as a prybar.

:D Exactly! I've use it as such. Well for medium duty prying/aligning. I like that about it.

Oh hello Eager. I note you bought one of the Spec Ops sheaths that you were going to use for your Greco folder. I have bought a Greco folder myself (nice knife too by the way, he's having a sale at the moment, they can be had for US $75. In previous posts people have complained that these are very stiff and hard to open and close but this one is fine)I was thinking of that too having seen the Spec Ops sheaths online and I was wondering if it was a good fit, if you were happy with it etc. I think in another post I read that the duplex was too big for folders but that may not be the case for the single. Thanks, Rod Mcgurgan.

I just ordered a Whisper this morning and was thinking that perhaps I'll make a pocket clip for it, since it's a bit large to carry loose in the pocket -- and I really don't care for sheaths or pouches...

Does anyone know of a reason why this can't or -- shouldn't be done? (Maybe I should call John Greco back before he ships it and see if he's willing to add a clip.)

Thanks,
Mark

MeDoctor, the Greco folders can be modified. He had a kit at one time with micarta handle slabs and the screws to hold them on. Maybe just a longer screw will hold on an off-the-shelf clip from somwhere else.

I got John on the phone right after I made that last post -- he says he's tried various clips and ways of mounting them on the Whisper, but none of them felt quite "right" when handling the knife. He basically suggested I try what you've recommended if I decide I really want a pocket clip.

Thanks,
Mark

I have a Falcon folder, and I think it's great.

You can certainly spend a whole lot more for considerably less knife.

From looking at mine, it should be easy enouh to fabricate a clip and use one of the existing fasteners to attach it. I've actually been meaning to do this for some time, but haven't yet.

Maybe this weekend.

My Whisper came today. What a solid knife! Nothing flashy about it... it'd make a great "work" knife for my oldest son, so I think he'll be getting it for Christmas. I'll probably get another one for myself and thin it down with the belt grinder. John Greco is one of the most pleasant folks I've done business with in many years. I'd likely buy another knife from him even if I didn't really like it.

Shalom,
Mark
