Reprofiling a Svord Von Tempsky Bowie

I recently received a brand new Svord Von Tempsky Bowie. It's a wonderful, big brute of a knife that's made of 6.5mm thick L6 steel. The flyer that comes with it recommends sharpening at 20 degrees per side, but it arrived with about a 65 degree total included angle and wasn't very sharp. Is there any reason not to gently take it down to 20 degrees or less per side? It will mostly be chopping softer woods with occasional maple or oak. I know Gransfor Bruk, whom I believe use the same steel for their axes, recommend very acute angles as low as 25-30 degrees total for carving and not a whole lot more for general use. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sure, go for it. Do some test cutting afterward, and inspect the edge. If it's still good, then the angle is fine. I suspect it will be. Most factory edges aren't that good, even from high end companies. Svord makes budget knives that tend to be somewhat roughly finished since they are so cheap. Ignore the factory edge and put your own edge on.
