I have some cpm 3 v and INFI that I want to Improve by removing metal to reshape them.

Now these blades are already hardened and heat treated so I am askimg what is the best way for me to go about this task in terms of efficiency?

I am aware of the need to avoid ruining the heat treatment by grinding but is there a way to grind slowly and use coolant that would be safe?

should I just use files or DMT DIAMOND stones?

thanks for any advice I appreciate your time.

You'll need a belt grinder. It can be done as long as you dip the blade in water after each pass.

While the belt grinder and dip is the easiest and quickest, I prefer using a flat diamond file. Mine is around 11" total length and 1" wide and maybe 1/4" thick. The diamond coating covers at least 6" of the file length. I like taking the time and getting it spot on. If you make even a small mistake using the grinder, it can be very difficult to "rescue" the knife. I would certainly do this for reprofiling the edge or adding a swedge. If I was hogging off or changing the shape of the blade where a lot of material is coming off, then I'd go down the grinder route.

thanks , I dont have a belt grinder , I imagine they are expensive. I have a dremel , and a regular grinder with stone wheels, maybe for taking off alot of material quickly and then submerge the blade in cold water after each pass is ok using those ?

I have DMT diamond steel plates including the XX COARSE and the coarse and fine for the finishing.

Thanks
