Reprofiling Halo V

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever reprofiled the edge on their Halo V?
As for mine, it seems to me like it could really benefit from a much lower inclusive angle than how it came from the factory. Now don't get me wrong, out of the box it's decently sharp, all I've done is to lightly strop the blade. I just think it could be so much sharper tho, with a (much) lower angle grind..

I've sharpened a few OTF microtechs, they all have bad blade geometry and thick edges which make getting a decent edge near impossible. I have yet to see a Halo in person but I doubt it's much different.

Hi, and thanks much for replying.
You've got it right, it's no different, very "blunt" factory edge grind. Which is really sad for such a sweet looking blade.

Its a shame they make such cool and nice quality blades but the geometry suggests they never intended anybody to use them (at least for otfs). Thats why I almost never use my ultratech. I do 18 dps and its not great at cutting for sure but still fun to use occasionally, thats just the way it is unless you want to thin out the primary grind.

18 dps?!? You sure? 18 dps, ..that's 36° inclusive, and thats pretty thick don't ya think? Around 30° inclusive (15 dps) is about the best.
If I undertake this, I'm looking to bring it down to around 12 dps or so, maybe a touch less, it is supposed to be Elmax after all. :)

I only have a utx70, but I reprofiled it to 20 dps (it was even less acute than that from the factory) and the bevel already looks pretty wide. At 15 dps you'd end up with a very wide bevel due to the geometry of the blade. That's my guess.

Well..I reprofiled my Halo V, and even with a DMT coarse this took a while.. whew..
If I was reading the chart right, the original edge angle was between 35-37 dps. I guess a monday morning or friday afternoon blade..
Reprofiled to approximately 20-22 dps, course then fine DMT, and WOW!!
I could go lower, but..it's so damn sharp now I don't really feel a need to :)
