Though some of you might be interested. I bought a well used Blackhawk with a Spyderedge that was past it's prime and since I really don't care for serrated edges I thought I'd see if I could reprofile the edge to a plain edge.

I used my 1X42 belt sander and a new 320 grit belt for rough shaping switching to a well used 400 for final sharpening. It seems to have worked out pretty well I took my time and made sure the blade didn't get passed warm to the touch along the edge after putting a final touch up on it using the sharpmaker it's shaving sharp.

The basic shape of the blade stayed pretty much the same but I did lose an 1/8 of an inch or so on the length.

Sorry about the crappy pictures

frogfish, that looks good! you do nice work. when i first read the thread, i couldn't forsee what a blade that was serrated would look like reprofiled to plain. looks good to me! i use a beltsander to grind blades too. i just wish i had a camera!

That looks really great! When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought we were going to be exposed to some monstrosity. LOL! You did a very good job though. :)

Very nice. The temper should still be in the blade as you didn't heat it up. Belt sanders are really nice for this work. :)
