Reprofilling a US MK 2 with sharpmaker or lansky

I have a misdeserved reputation as a knife sharpener (the land of the blind thing) and would like to be able to do it decently i.e. hair popping. Added to this I recently bought an unissued Camillus USNavy Mark 2. The blade edge can at best be described as utilitarian - saw like would possibly be more accurate. It looks like it needs a complete build of the edge.

What angles would you suggest for profiling the blade 15 edge and 20 microbevel??

next question is how?

I have improved the edge roughly with an old stone and done a bit with a diamond jewelstick

Have a Spyderco sharpmaker 204 arriving soon. I suspect the two stones are not up to fundamenatl reprofiling of eges such as the camillus and others???

If not what is the best way - A diamond stone for the sharpmaker if available or getting the lansky deluxe system/ possibly the diamond??

Or should I simply get a coarse stone from hardware and do a rough 15-20 degree and just use the sharpmaker for the final bevel??

Note I will probably end up doing a lot of knives

Note how long will the stones on a sharpmaker last??

Use a single cut mill bastard file to rebevel (not reprofile.)

Sharpmaker rods will last a long time. I've been using the same rods for a couple of years and all I do is clean them each time I'm through using them. I don't use them to rebevel, though. All they do is the light sharpening and touchup that I need.

You have several choices for doing the rebeveling that you want to do. If you want to do it freehand, there are quite as few people on the boards that will give good advice. I'm pretty bad at freehand sharpening, so I yield to them.

If you want a system, I'd suggest the Edge Pro. It's an easy to use system that allows for a wide range of angles w/o having to clamp the knife. You hold it on a flat table and run the stones across the edge after setting the angle you want. Flip the knife over and do the other side. Very easy to use and the coarse stones cut quickly. I've rebeveled VG10, ATS34, and ZDP189 among others. You can also polish with it, if you want, but I use the U/F Sharpmaker rods for that.
