sorry folks i had an eariler post with no reply i hope u people can help me here. thanks.
i want to get the ken onion chive but i have a question say if the spring was taken out would the chive still be able to act like the usual folder (just without the speed safe mechanism). thanks for the answers.
i heard that the spring helps the blade from flopping out when in the closed position, is this true as well? i though the chive as a lock to ensure it doesnt open when closed?
please confer folks

If it's like other Speed-Safes, it needs the torsion bar to keep the blade in the folded position. There is no detent in the liner to keep the blade in the handle.

Maybe the Chive is different, but I tend to doubt it.

The Chive does have a safety built into the handle. It is a sliding mechanism that moves a plastic tab over the blade tip, preventing it from coming out of the handle. Take your thumb, slide forward on the Torx screw and the plastic tab clears the blade tip, and you can open the blade.

actually, the spring broke on my boa and i haven't gotten around to sending it back yet. I almost like it better.

Pete
