Hey all, I recently purchased a gerber XCP, and im wondering what type of steel is used. I've done the whole google search, and looked here on blade forums, but nothing has arised.
It takes a shaving edge quite well, but I fear for the worst  (gerbers 420hc) but it has kept that edge with normal everyday use, I started edc'ing about a week ago and it has kept its edge sooo,.....

thanks everyone
Ben

So, it sharpens up fine, has had acceptable use, etc. Would a number associated with the knife blade make it a worse knife?

Seems like the knife is meeting your expectations, why worry about the steel type?

not sure that Gerber tells anyone what steel they use for their standard knives. I've looked and never been able to find anything definitive.

In God I trust.
All others bring data.

oh, by all means, dont get me wrong. I enjoy the characteristics of the blade, but I just wanted to know. Te 420hc that gerber uses on its gator line of folders isnt' worth $&!^, but seeing is this steel is holding up better, I wanted to find out what it is. I do know its a discontiund knife, and there was someone that thought it might have been 440c. Personaly I dont think its 440c, but I have been wrong
