i like these knives but i'm wondering how good they are. I know that the locks are amazingly strong but how is the edge, steel, handle, and point. I'm thinkin about the tanto recon

I own one. It is a solid knife in every manner.
However I find the tanto point not to my liking , just my personal taste.

I have been considering that for some time, but remain hesitant because of the 440A steel. In all fairness, i have a number of other knives with that steel including a CS Night Force, and they've all held up pretty well. It would just have been so nice if they used AUS-8A like on the Voyager series.

It is solid and smooth. However I wish it had some sort of lip or guard or something. A hard thrust, and your hand is going right up the blade.

Friend has 2 models. One is the aus8 made in Japan and the other is one of the new 440A models. The blade stop pin on the new one broke under normal flicking to open the knife.

The only negative thing about the Recon I is it's size. It's too big for me for everyday carry. Other than that, it's a good knife made with decent material and at a fair price. Put a request for one in the 'Knives, Wanted to Buy' thread and you might get a great deal on one, or try ebay.

I have two friends who have the Recon and it is a pretty tough knife but the edge holding sucks. But other then that it is a pretty neat knife. I still would not get it though.
