Does anyone have this model? It looks good but before I buy one, I'd like to know how the action is and the lock. Thanks.

I have owned and used a SOG Flash II for about 5 months now. Here is my evaluation of it:

Blade- very useful shape and design. I have the combo edge and I feel that it holds an edge and cuts very well. The blade shape is a favorite of mine, a drop point that I think is very functional. (It dressed out two deer very well). I like the flat-ground shape as it makes a good cutter for almost everything. It has been rather hard for me to resharpen, however, but with patience, I have been sucessful. 8 out of 10

Handle- I have a large hand with long fingers. The handle is very ergonomic and fills my hand well. It is comfortable in both reverse or standard grip. I would , however, liked a more aggressive surface- it is checkered, but I would like it to be deeper. It got a little hard to control when my hands were wet and slippery.Pocket clip allows the knife to ride very low in the pocket- very unobtrusive. But makes it difficult to grab the handle. I attached a thin split-ring and Paracord fob (all-a Sebenza) to grab.

Assisted opening/lock- I can take this or leave it. Works well (although not as fast opening as my Kershaw Whirlwind). The lock-up is very solid- very little if any blade play. The lock takes some practice to get adapt at, use your thumb nail. It worked easily at first- but got more difficult after use and cleaning- especially after applying Tuff-glide. But it has loosened up as time goes on. The assisted opening has worked flawlessly and I have worked it a lot (playing with it while watching TV, etc.). I don't use the safety- too much of a hassel. I have had no problem with the blade opening accidently. 8 out of 10

Overall- very well designed, light weight tactical- type folder. For the money- an excellent value IMHO. You won't be sorry if you get one. Hope this helps.

I just sold my flash II for the rainbow flash II. it is the coolest knife yet !the looks of the rainbow leek, but not slippery, because of the checkered grip.my original flash opened super quick, this one seems slighly slower, but the lock release bar does not move when open like the earlier flash did,so there is no rattle now of the lock release lever,a nice improvement. i found it to be a solid knife, very sharp. the only other thing you may notice is a bit of side to side blade play. check out the rainbow version on their website. it is the nicest one yet. love the deep pocket clip, too !!!

I've had my Flash II for uhh 6 or 7 months I think.

I use it mostly as a food knife and carry it daily as my plain edged blade (my other knife is fully serrated) on my off (left) side. The assist is nice to have on my off hand, I know that I can get it open without having to concentrate on it with either hand.

The main reason I got the knife is to see how I liked the slide lock. I do not like liner-locks or lock backs for various reasons and the lock on the Flash has proven to be just as good as my blade-lock and axis-lock knives. The semi-auto feature and the lock effectively hold the knife open or closed.

The blade is a fairly standard shape and comes with a nice edge from the factory. I keep mine extra clean and use it mostly for food prep and while I eat along with occasional work where a straight blade is preferable over my serrated "working" knife.

The plastic handles aren't all that nice, but they have a nice shape and adequate grip. Let just leave those rated as : Nothing special.

The assited opening is smooth and works every time. If auto's aren't legal in your state (like mine  ) , this is a good alternative. I pull the knife and shift the blade under 1/4" and its good to go. I know if I eve to deploy my knife NOW this is a solid 3rd place behind autos, and fixed blades, it will be ready when I NEED it. Use it to intimidate or impress sheeple as desired.

Really the only thing that I'd like to have for the knife is a 'wave' feature where I could just catch the blade on the edge of a pocket or sheath and touch off the assited opening. Perhaps for the Flash III.

For $50-$70 (can't recall what I paid) this is a wonderful knife. I wish I held out for the Rainbow one with aluminum handles, oh well.
