Request: steel board

Ok, not a new board, BF has plenty now, imo. But perhaps a slight change to the name/description of knife review/testing, to suggest discussion of materials there, along with some thread shifting. Seems appropriate to me, as materials, craftsmanship, and tech specs are what's getting tested.

I dunno if it's a good description of my thinking, but I think Blade discussion should be for knives, and knife reviews/testing should be for what knives are made of and how it affects terminal performance (at least for mass production knives, there's also the custom board). The 'big' board isn't necessarily cluttered, imo, but the specific materials discussion never quite seemed to fit for me.

Naturally, just throwing my humble opinion out there.

The Blade Discussion Forum and the Reviews & Testing Forum overlap in subject matter but the denizens of the two forums have very different attitudes and levels of commitment. When the denizens of Blade Discussion find themselves plunged into the kind of technical discussions that are common in Reviews & Testing they tend to get pretty uncomfortable. They don't get answers they can comprehend to the questions they have. Of course some people post in both forums, but most of them have mastered the art of mentally shifting gears when they move from one forum to the other.

The bottom line: if you see a newbie asking "What's the toughest steel?" in Blade Discussion, don't give the same answer you would in Reviews & Testing.
