Request tips on forging motorcycle chain

I have recently acquired both some motorcycle drive chain, and some motorcycle timing chain and am interested in forging them into blades. I am pretty new at forging (have done one blade so far). I'm wondering what the process is for making the chain into a single piece of stock to work with. (My understanding at this point is that you make it very hot and beat the hell out of it. But that seems a bit vague) Any tips or leads to info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Light taps to start, takes several welding heats to get to solid.
There is a lot or air space you need to get rid of.

Mike is right. I use a press to sqeeze the hell out of it. Start fluxing right away to get it covered completely. It has a thousand hidden spaces that wont weld if they get scale before flux. Powdered spic and span mixed with water helps to clean it first. I use Harley roller chain made in the USA. The cheap import stuff wont hold an edge. Diamond brand is best. Bruce
