Requesting recommendations for long lasting sandpaper for disc grinder

Hi all,

I just got a horizontal disc grinder up and running.

I am making some paring knives out of S35VN and using the disc grinder to flatten the grind.

It seems like the off brand wet/dry sandpaper I had in the drawer didn't last very long and am now in the market for some new paper.

Does anyone have recommendations for sandpaper that does well on a disc grinder?

Thanks in advance,

Tait

I don't (yet) have a disc grinder, but it seems like some of the folks who do really like Rhynowet Redline for that purpose. I recently started using it for hand sanding, and really like it over my previous paper for that purpose.

i use disks that are used in body shops on the big 9" body sanders. they are made by 3m if you can find them. i get 24 grit and put them on with a good spray adhesive after letting them sit in the sun to warm. some have a natural curve to them and need to be heated to glue in place. clamps are a must also.

I bought a few Blaze 9" 60 and 120 grit from Trugrit. They're expensive, but I also have the Nielson disc system so I figured they were worth a go. The 60 grit I put on has lasted through 2 blades now. Anyone else using the Blaze discs considering theit $5.00 a pop cost?

Thanks for the great replies.

Richard, I was hoping for something finer than 24 grit.

I actually live only about 1/2 hour from Trugrit - I'll swing by and take a look at their 9" discs - if they are holding up through a couple of knives, they're probably worth it (even beofre I get the Nielson disc system).

While there, I will look for Klingspor and Rhynowet.

Thanks guys.
