Why isn't it a requirement for sellers to post their location like on many other boards? Often times I've seen an interesting knife or something for sale only to have contacted the seller and found out they were in Taiwan or Canada or somewhere. This would be a great help to buyers and sellers alike and would cut down on unnecessary posts.

That would be nice.
BUT, I don't think you can put being based in Canada in the same category as Taiwan.

Sometimes a certain amount of anonymity is appreciated. In theory you could go through the whole deal without even knowing the persons name, just a PO box number.

I don't like the idea of forcing people to publicly post their location because it would be posted for everyone, not just potential buyers. If it's a big deal to you that they are from Canada, I'd ask before making any sort of "I'll take it" or other offer.

I chose to put for other people's reference that I am from Indiana. That's all that average web user Joe needs to know. Other makers could ask me and I'd tell them, but Indiana is large enough to give me a sense of vagueness, but small enough so that people in Washington state don't try to stop by.

What level of privacy the user has is up to them. If they don't want to mention what continent they are on, such is life.

I for one don’t care, as long as your not a crazy I’m in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Stop by for a beer if your ever in town, we’ll talk knives.

You're right...I've had far less trouble shipping knives to Taiwan. :D
