What's the durability of res c? I'd like to dye the handles on my HOGB8 to black but the directions on the dye say you need to bring the water to a boil then leave the object in the boiling water for 30 minutes to 1 hour. I read another thread were someone used the same dye to dye their res c handles but I didn't get from the thread if they actually followed the directions or just let the handles soak in the dye for a couple of days. I'm afraid that if I leave the res c handle in boiling water for an hour they might not be the same when I take them out. Thoughts?

I am curious how it will turn out, I say boil away! Let us know how it works. I am not sure you could hurt it by boiling, and I do not know if the dye will take, but I love some mad scientist stuff.

If it were me, I would just be satisfied with tan. I'm assuming your RecC is tan, since I don't think the HOGB8 came in any handle colors other than tan or black (and maybe not even black; can't remember).

This seems like a really weird thing to do. IF the handles survive, which I too think they probably will, I can’t imagine the dye holding. I imagine you will have a black hand the first time you use it.

Here is my 2 cents;

First
again ...............If you have questions about a Busse-kin product, why not ask the people that have made it first ? I would guess they would know best.

Second
I would not boil the handles.
As I remember that if you cut the handles you can run flame over them and kind of weld it back together.

Personal experience with res c I have heated them with a heat gun and it become malleable and can be reformed
I even stippled them with a wood burner.

So I am guessing boiling water would at the very least soften them.

third

Maybe offer the knife up on the exchange to someone that has a black handled one that will trade you ?

fourth

I have worked with Rit dye a bit
I dyed a couple folder handles and it turned out great
Get the synthetic dye
boil the water and dye with out the handle being in there
let it cool to where you can kind of put your hand in briefly
Dip the handle in for a little bit and see if it changed the color.
If it changed at all when the mixture cools leave it in there a little longer

I dyed the grey to burgundy on these "Griveory" synthetic scales

I was leaning more towards letting it soak in the dye for longer. Thanks
