Aloha ALL!

A few days ago, I *got* one of the production version RESCOM Folder's (RF from this point on) from Boker Germany. I got it prior to going to Hell, so I brought it with me to share with my co-workers.

We did some cutting tests using old sheets, tightly wound of all different diameters, to simulate that which an inmate would use to hang themselves with. First I used just the hook area on the RF. This was very sharp and cut through the rolled sheet of the same diameter as the hook on the RF with ease. Then, "Uh oh, sheet's too large for the hook!" Not a problem for the RF. So long as you can get a slight, and I mean slight sawing motion going on material that is larger in diameter than the hook size of the RF, it was pretty much push, pull, push, cut! Very fast, especially on larger diameter sheet rolls! Everyone was impressed.

Then I got "cocky". I got an old magazine, tore it in half, wound it up very tightly, and proceeded to cut through it with the RF. There was NO way that a simple pulling cut would go through something like this, but as mentioned already, simply using the sawing motion first, allowed me to cut through this magazine pretty quickly. I mean, we were doing the scenarios like, "Okay, ready, set, go" kinda thing...not just taking our time cutting through the said items.

This went on the rest of the evening, using more sheets, rubbish bags and such. Cardboard didn't stand a chance...neither did envelopes for that matter! Heck, even when the nurse came by to pass out meds, he commented on how we all should be issued such a tool!

We all got to talking about how well this RF performed...and how versatile it was being able to cut "things" larger than the hook portion via the serrated section. Next day, I looked for stuff to cut around the shed. I wish I knew where I put that polyrope, but that will have to wait for another day...

Parachord, vines, rubber tubing, web belts, all of these fell easily with just the hook portion of the RF. Weedwhacker line required a bit of a pull, but if the serrated portion of the RF is used first, it won't stand a chance.

BTW, one good thing about the RESCOM Folder is the fact that the Spyderco Sharpmaker rods can resharpen the serrated portion as well as fit in the hook area. Even my favorite sharpener, the Spyderco Pro-File set fits, and has an advantage over the Sharpmaker rods due to the shape on it's "edges". That being said, them Lansky "dog bone types" can easily touch up the RF if need be.

I got a "good feeling" about this SF Variant...and I cannot wait to get more of them come October when they *should* be released for sale! As a true rescue type blade, it can go anywhere...either on your person, or in your vehicle...for divers and fisherman, rafters, florists, LEO's, EMT's, military...whatever, etc...the RF is for real.

Anyway, thanks again everyone and God bless!!!

Chad is this one a guaranteed variant, or still only a possibility?

I ask because the more I look at it, the more I'm convinced it could function much the same way a Hawkbill does. That thing would mutilate boxes with ease.

How hard is it to sharpen the hook? Looks pretty simple with a radiused stone, but have you had to yet?

***Edit, just saw that they should be out in October. That's gonna be a Boker month for me. Between two of these and SFB coming out, I better start working some overtime.***

Hey Scott,

Yes, it's a for sure SFV coming out in October. As for the SFB being released at that time, well...when I see it I'll yada-yada.:D

Also, this RF is MUCH safer than a Hbill bro. Especially due to it's design specifics. However, for those who'd prefer a "tip" to this, then yes, you are correct about the Hbill. Now, again, IF these SFV's do well...I hope to unleash the SubClaw!!! OBTW, Boxes do NOT stand a chance against the RF.;)

The hook portion in terms of resharpening is easy...especially with my 701. I didn't have to, but I simply touched it up a bit to see first hand what the difficulty if any, would be to resharpen this RF. Easily done bro, just go slow when using the triangle types and it's all good!;)

God bless knifebro, and BTW, have I passed the "quote test"?:p

That is one sweet Subcom...can't wait to get my hands on one and show it around to some Leo's.........Doc:D

My Dear Friends,

I see myself getting at least one or two of these, as well as several as gifts for paramedic friends around Christmastime. This is a must-have blade!

This design never ceases to amaze me with its versatility...

Chad,

If you don't stop designing knives, I'm going to remain forever broke:D , J/K. I normally cary a orange Rescue 79mm IWB, and your RF just may replace it.

Mahalo ALL,

Great seeing you all here...

Hey thanks bro! No...you will never go broke, not at the price point for the SFV's.;)

A+ bro. You are now officially quote certified.
Mahalo bro...thanks to you! I swear, this makes things a LOT easier:p

God bless you all and take care:thumbup:

Aloha ALL,

Well tried some polyrope on the RF...that one strand didn't stand a chance.

Tried 18 strands duct taped together...

Didn't stand a chance! I think it took all but four quick passes using the serrated portion and then the hook did all the rest. See, 18 strands was wider than the hook portion, so some fast "sawing" then a final pull seperated the 18 strands with ease.

So long as there is a bit of space to do a slight sawing motion...this will go through a great many things...cool.

Sorry about the pics...I think they need to be "rescued"!:o
God bless and thanks for checking this out!!!
