Rescue knife/tool?

I want a rescue tool to carry on my belt. I've considered the Spyderco Assist for a while now buy didn't get one because the blade wouldn't be that useful for EDC use (or so I'm thinking). I see now that Benchmade has a new product (915 Triage) with a plain edge sheepfoot blade, cutting hook and glass breaker. That looks nice but isn't available yet I don't think. Benchmade also has a tool (Houdini) with a cutting hook and glass breaker. I'd have to carry another knife which isn't a problem. One thing is I'd have to KNOW the glass breaker works. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jack

Both ZT and kershaw have shroud cutters, if that is what you want. there is a rescue edge blur, as well. other than that, i don't know.

Check YouTube to see if anyone has a demonstration of the glassbreaker in use.

Thanks, I looked and found some videos including a review of the Benchmade Houdini which was one of my possibilities. It was less expensive so I ordered one and will try it. If it won't break glass I'll return it. The thing I like is the glassbreaker is spring loaded. You just hold it up to the glass and release it. No arm swinging which could end up with you getting cut. If it works I'll really be happy. They didn't actually test breaking glass in the video but it looked like punch down tools I used to use on telephone/communication equipment blocks. It also has a little flashlight which shines right on the seatbelt cutter.

The Spyderco really looked great as a glassbreaker. It was tested on glass that looked like a car window but broke like glass in a house window (not safety glass). You would definately get cut with glass like that if you swung hard. I'm a bit confused about the glass.

I'm not in the rescue business, but how about a Becker Tactool?

With movie! The glassbreaker looks mildly effective. Of course, it's all staged.

just my two cents

VERY nice tool. It is the most versitile I've ever seen not that I've seen a lot. It is under $100 on swissarmy.com so should be available for a lot less on other sites. Thanks.

The glass punch on the ResQMe works very well.

I prefer to carry dedicated tools for different tasks, so in my firejacket I carry the ResQMe for breaking toughened vehicle glass, along with a Benchmade Rescue Hook for safe cutting of belts, line, clothes etc and a Benchmade 551 Griptilian for everthing else.
