Years back, I owned a knife that for my use was close to ideal for its purposes. It was made either by Cold Steel or Gerber. It was an out the front sheepsfoot pattern blade that was opened by sliding a button down the side of the handle (similar to some small razor knives used for crafting). The handle on mine was made of a very tough plastic and orange in color although, I seem to recall a black model being made also. The approx 3" blade was of a bright stainless that was hollow ground and had a serated edge. Does anyone else remember these little gems and who made them? Are there still a similar type made?

I know exactly what you're talking about....I think it was a Cold Steel model; their Air/Land/Sea rescue knife before it was replaced by the current Voyager-style folder. It was made in both black and orange. I have not seen those in a while. The nearest thing to replace it is the Shrade Extreme Survival series, Out-the-Front Assisted Opening knife (slide button on the handle...assisted open, manual retraction). Spear and tanto; but only plain blade and partially serrated, not fully serrated.
