I am looking for a knife/tool to keep in my vehicles. Requirements would be to have a blunt tipped blade, be able to break glass, and open with one hand (but not an "automatic"). A dedicated seatbelt cutter that doesn't require using the blade would be a plus, as would a reasonable price seeing I would need to buy several of them.

So far the Gerber Hinderer looks good to me. Any comments on this choice, or suggestions for a different choice would be appreciated!

I am thinking along those lines also but for different reasons. I think any
tool that obviously LOOKS like a rescue tool will not be viewed with
as much suspicion. So I am looking for a rescue looking tool that
has a good KNIFE blade on it but will have that stealth type ability.

Spyderco's Rescue line has 2 different blade sizes, a couple of bright handle colors, and varying edge configurations (plain, serrated, combo-ish). They have sheepfoot blades so they aren't very stabby, but still have usable point. The Salt line also has some rescue models as above with rust-PROOF H1 steel.

While I would prefer something myself with a blade, the advantage of the bladeless Benchmade for my kids is that there is a "no tolerance" policy at K-12 schools for "weapons"....even in you car when parked on campus.

I've just ordered one of Benchmade's seat belt cutters and I also have an automatic centerpunch to break windows [no need to swing it !! ] Of course I've always had a BK-7 as mu 'truck knife'

i bought my hinderer about two years ago i guess, picked it up 'cause i liked the look of it, excellent fit and finish. though it doesnt have a cutting edge just the serrations, but you probably already knew that :)
all in all i like it and mine came with a mini set of tools, all fits in its sheath pretty handy. The size of the knife is large but i edc'd it for a year, the serrated edge makes light work of opening fed ex boxes etc. makes the squares nervous if you whip it out in front of them:D
I like mine alot, good luck with what ever ya decide

After some thought, I decided that having a blade isn't a priority. I constantly carry an Emerson folder of some kind and a multitool, so I have that base covered.

Decided on the Benchmade ERT-1. Ordered one for each vehicle, and several more to give out as Christmas gifts....

tank picts:D
