Rescue Laser Flare vs. aireal flare

Well, just think of the concept of a true flare Vs a "laser" or flashlight..

A flare has the ability to be launched in the air (most), which increases it's ability to be seen. both in terms of the movement of the light, as well as the higher hight, lets it be seen "line of sight" from many different locations..

a flashlight or laser tend to have a directed focus, and can only be seen by someone who has "line of sight" to the location you are in.. someone could be "over the ridge" that is 100 yards away, and completly miss you..

now there is an advantage to the flashlight/laser for "re-usability", where you do not get with a flare..

why note have both? ;)

In response to ckc....

If you look under the "Learn more" section on the website, it discusses how the refraction in the lens works. The farther someone is standing away from you the easier it is to see. Apparently at 16 miles out, this "laser light" produces a wall of 6,000ft of light. So it is bound to get their attention.

However, i would always agree that having both is the best way to go. Besides aerial flares provide a way to signal despite being in dense foilage or in some other covered terrain.
