I am curious if the rescue 93mm can be used in MBC? I am thinking of taking one of these classes, however I am one of those guys who only carries one knife at a time. My rescue 93mm is pretty much my EDC and with the exception of not being a "stabbing" type of knife could still be used very effectively as a "slasher". I can buy a delica, or an endura however I prefer the design of the rescue. I realize any knife can be used for defense but could this model effectively be employed? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Hmm I have the same question regarding the police. Is the Civillian rated as an MBC knife?? It was desgned for SD but is it rated for MBC?

Any edged tool can be used to do the act of Martial Blade Craft..
The Idea of a tool designed for MBC is a diffrent concept.
Tools designed for MBC have to be stong enough to pull AGAINST the lock..to be use against the force of another person..
Thats different than using an edged tool to accomplish a martial type response..
*Disclaimer:*I am not speaking for SPYDERCO..nor do I speak for Sal..so if its different than his response that's because this is how I see it...
The Civilian is a superb SDR:self defense response tool.In a self defense situation of slashing it will do its designed job.. rip a femoral artery for example..Its tip is too thin to be used as an MBC tool..Pulling on it or against it will break it..it is not an EDC nor MBC
The Rescue cannot thrust or pull against the lock..its not designed for that..BUT its serrated and has a strong blade and can slash very effectively..again it can be a EDC with SDR abilities...

An MBC blade can be used to trap . lock, pull and slam n jam without loss of use of the tool..it works in forward and reverse grip by design...
these tools are designed by people out in the field..
The Keating Chinook, the Glesser Temperance Jr,the Ayoob Tactical, the coming Janich Yojimbo, the Gunting....these are modern specifically designed for MBC blades..
Yes there are blades - knives, tools that predate these and the MBC catagory that sit in a shade of grey and without them leading the way, we'd have no MBC blades..They are the SDR tools...Self Defense Response tools...

But back to your question..Yes any tool can be used in SDR or in a limitd MBC response...some are specifically designed to do that job..
You don't hammer with a screwdriver or drive a screw with a hammer...
The Rescue is as good as a DElica or Endura for your purpose for sure!

be safe

Thanx for the info Bram. I think I mistakenly compared MBC to the techniques that may be taught at the Sigarms class. They prefer the Delica or the Endura. Great knives however I find the Rescue 93mm a better tool for everyday chores. Plus it's a great duty knife.

SIG Arms uses Delicas and Enduras and his in training..and in being able to actual act out scenarios...because Mike Debethencourt uses the training tools that I advised him to use...He used to use my resin trainers of Enduras and DElicas...
He's very concerned with your safety ..
and Enduras and Delicas are easily and readily avaivable to the general public...
Mikes course @ SIG Arms is the use of a tool for survival..
Michael DeBethencourt is an old friend of mine..He affectionately calls my peer group "knifers"..and if you want to learn our stuff he tells you to go train with us...for he teaches what he calls officer survival course...how in a last ditch effort you use your tool to save your life period..
It is not a knife course..nor an MBC type course..
You will see that you work edge in..
You will see that you use the tool as its indexed..then save your life from an up close and personal situation that you have no other way out...
That the BG gets usually a lethal force response-reaction..
that's the course..
no illusions..
no hype...
And Mike is good @ what he does..

Michael Janich and I teach MBC..Martial Blade Craft..
something different..
we are active users..we do knife counter knife..as Mike D sayswe are knifers..in his terminology..we carry knives, use knives, react with knives...train with knives,,,engage in interpersonal relationships with knives..
Most of the current peer group of knife-counter knife instructors are part of the overall Filipino martial arts group..pick a style, pick a family..whatver..generically we are Filipino stylists...

Remember the golden rule..the best knife you can use is the one that's readily accessible in your pocket!

Be safe

Bram

PS: I don't know where you are located but I'll be teaching @ Fort Hamilton Nov 2...up in NYC..
Agency , Gov and military only..

Bram, I would love to show at your class, however too short notice. I am trying to convince my unit (89 SFS, Andrews AFB, MD) to hire someone like yourself to come and instruct our security forces and law enforcment in less than lethal force as well as blade use. Do you have a website or any information on your classes, prices and availablity? Thanx for any info.

Less then lethal and blade use?!
Man have you EVER stumbled into the right person!

Try HARD to get Bram (or Mr. Janich) to come see your guys. They are worth it.
