When I first joined BF, I stumbled upon a thread about one member’s recent purchase from Coyle Outdoors. He seemed very happy with his new BK16. Here’s an (edited) version of what he had to say:

After much excited hand wringing and spent nervous energy, I finally received my BK-16. And man....it is effing awesome!! I contacted Dex about getting a 16 worked up and after some great communication, we settled on a 16 that was to be rebuilt, Waffle House style: stripped, parkerized, convexed, squared, re-sheathed, and re-handled. Step up, get yourself a plate of that and you get this:

Now, despite much consternation on Dex's part about the parkerizing not taking like he wanted to (something along the lines of his 5 retry's in my book counts as above and beyond the call of duty), I like the looks of the knife. Yeah, it didn't turn out perfect, but who in the hell cares? Unlike the 7 that I was gifted, this is going to be user. Users get beat the hell up. IMO, after it was stripped, I think it looks nice and used before I've even used it. :) It's my knife...shut the hell up! :D

Pretty cool. A nice happy ending, right? But then … I saw another far more troubling thread from the same OP:

A few weeks ago, I posted about receiving my first user Becker from Dex. He pointed out to me that the parkerizing didn't take like he had wanted but that he was going to send me the knife anyway AND when he fixed the parkerizing issue, he would send me another knife. Well, I told him that I liked the knife and not to worry about it. I used the knife a few times over that time and really forgot about anything Dex told me.

Well, I received the new knife yesterday and wow. It is awesome!

I switched out the handles and hardware and shipped the now used and "horrible looking" back to him in a pre-paid USPS Priority Mail envelope.

Whoa, hold on a sec. I understand the wacbzz’s love for that new knife. It’s beautiful. But that original knife had history, man! They had a relationship! It was family! And he just SENT IT AWAY?! Like sending a child back to the orphanage just because they got a cuter one in? Did we learn NOTHING from the movie, A.I.? (I certainly didn't.)

And not only did he send it away. He sent it back to – well, I’ll let Bladite characterize this Dexwithers fellow:

wacbzz, i feel your pain.

that's a terrible knife, with a terrible treatment, from a terrible man. i hear he soaks knives for days, and heckles them while they suffer.

no more.

I’m sorry, but sometimes you can’t just turn a blind eye to suffering. Sometimes you have to do something! And I’m making it my personal mission to SAVE THIS KNIFE. :grumpy:

So to you, Dexwithers, let me just say this about that BK16 you’ve TAKEN.

I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Those skills primarily involve drinking lots of bourbon then ordering things on the internet. Oh wait, I guess I must have at least a little money in order to do that. Anyhow, if you send that BK16 to me, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I WILL look for you, I WILL find you, and I will--

Oh hey. You already sent it to me.

Here she is, safe and sound. wacbzz’s original BK16, reparked, retouched, and with a new outfit:

Wait, am I Liam Neeson rescuing the innocent in this scenario? Or am I the sleazy rich sheikh on the yacht buying new playthings that I have every intention of abusing the hell out of? :D

I’m good either way.

But in all seriousness, great work, Dex! This is one slick rig.

Awesome post. I'd say you're a little bit Liam and a little bit sheikh. Abuse it but still love it. This does not help my desire for a 16. Very nice setup you've got going there.

Neither. You're my twin brother..

Awesome rig Wheel. Looks fantastic. Now send it to me..

Ha! The bourbon causes more damage to my wallet than my liver. Bigghoss and the others were razzing a new member about getting a BK9 so much the other night while I was a bit under the influence. I realized I couldn't not can't not could never ever not have a BK9. Long story short, this came in today too:

It's been a good day :)
