Is this still a planned model?

(http://www.knifecenter.com/leelarae/shot.html):

"Rescue model to be discontinued and to be replaced with an advanced model that has an ergonomic handle, blunt nosed blade, and integrated, retractable carbide glass breaker that is activated by squeezing the closed blade in the handle."

Hi Mksql. So far it is scheduled for a January '03 delivery. The blunt nose sheepfoot version has a built in glass breaker. The Warncliff version does not.

Sal,
Any suggestion for a secure way of storing the knife in the car? Remember that accident that Gollnick mentioned, where his BM opened when he was in a crash and stucked to the back seat?
I would like to have the rescue with the center punch in my parents car but I want it so that it would stay in place after an accident.

I wish that I had known about this newer version of the Rescue, w/glass breaker, earlier. :(

I just bought a new Blue Rescue and am very happy with it, but that glass breaker would be a valuable modification. I guess that I'll just have to get the new model Rescue when it comes out. ;) :D

Will it have the same blade as the new blue Rescue? What handle materials/colors?

It's called the "Assist". We'll begin with black only and see from there. The blade shape is "unusual", but quite different from the current Rescues.

Rescue line up for 2003;

"Rescue 93mm" in black, blue & Orange. Fully serrated except the Blue version will have a partial plain edge at the tip.

"Rescue 79mm" in black, blue & orange. fully serrated only.

"Assist" in black. 2 blade variations, one with glass breaker.

"D'Allara Rescue" in black. The World Trade Center Project model with the new handle. Fully serrated. Ball Bearing Lock

Sal, is the new Rescue still on schedule for release this month(1/03)? I hope to get my hands on one or two. Also, would you happen to have any pics? Thanks.

Hi KBR. I have just received the protos made from the completed mold. Quite nice. It looks like delivery is now schedued for April. Apologies. I will have samples at the SHOT Show that can be protographed.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look forward to its' release. :D One other question though, will it have the full SpyderEdge as in the black handled version?

Sal,
I'm very anxious for the Assist.
Please, send us some pictures ;)

Hi KBR. The Assist has a rope "scissoring" feature. The blade will remain partially open to be able to insert rope (line) into one of the "finger indentations" in the handle. Then one can put their fingers into the "finger indentations" at the spine of the blade and "scissor" the line in two. The tip portion of the blade is plain edged like the blue Rescue 93mm. This permits one to put a nyon or dacron line in the "end" finger indentation" and cut it clean with the plain edge portion of the blade, which is lined up to meet the "end finger indation" in the handle. This makes it much easier to melt the end without having to deal with the ragged edge on line that a serrated edge leaves. Very difficult to try to explain without pics. I'll try to get some pics done before shot show, but we're pretty busy these days getting ready.

Sal, as long as we'll see the pictures soon we'll be happy.

Sal, are we still looking at April as the release date? I am holding off on any other knife purchases waiting on them. I am planning on putting these in my vehicles. Do you know, or can you release, what the suggested retail will be on the assist? Thanks.

Does it still have that interesting tip?
I best way I can think of to describe it would be a hybrid between a sheepsfoot and cricket tip (or maybe a guthook).
