I was given a Uncle Henry that I was told was my Great Grandfathers. I am trying to determine how old it really is and if there is any value as an antique. The knife is a 153UH and it has a model number engraved on the brass finger guard - 05944. It is in a brown box that says Uncle Henry Golden Spike.

Can anyone help?

Schrade serialed them early on for the loss protection warranty. So your Great Grandfather's Golden Spike is fairly early in production. My catalogs only go back to 1973 and it is listed there with a retail of $30.00. Someone else will have to chime in on the collector dollar value and first introduction year. Does the tang stamp say Schrade Walden, or Schrade + USA? They were made right up until Schrade's closing in 2004, so they are not really rare, but they are nice knives and there is a certain demand for them in good condition. The last retail price was $69.95. Hope this helps until someone more knowledgable comes along. That should be any time now. Glad to have you here in the forum! Maybe you have the centerpiece of a growing collection!

Thanks Codger

The tang stamp only says Schrade - it does not include "Walden", or "Schrade+". As for value, while it would be interesting to know, just remembering my Great Grandfather opening up trout in the streams of NC back in the early 70's is enough!
