Resiliance... where have you been all my life!

Back story... I had an old Camillus Cuda knife that has been my EDC for going on 10+ years... pretty standard fare, AUS8 blade, liner lock, G10 handles with steel liners, problem is after 10 years the liner lock was finally starting to develop enough play as to be unreliable when used for anything more than opening packing boxes....

Now, I've been actively trying to replace this knife for at least 5 of those 10 years and even though I have bought maybe 50+ direct replacments in that time, nothing had actually taken its place in my pocket....till today.

I bought a half dozen Cold Steels before I gave up on their triad lock... sure its strong, but impossible to close one handed....I'm definitely a liner lock kind of guy...

I had been looking for a Spyderco Military thinking it would be the one, but after handling a buddies, It just didn't have the FEEL I wanted... balance was off.... too accustomed to the handle heavy Cuda and the Military's lack of liners just had it off balance to me...

I was digging around and ran across a Szabo at a good price, bought it thinking it would work, found out the hard way I'm not a fan of the compression lock...other than that, loved the knife other than it being a little thicker than I preferred....back to the drawing board....

Back to the Spyderco websight, search by " Walker " lock type.... nothing really hit me.....then I saw the Resiliance.....could it really be that easy?....

It had everything I wanted... blade length was right, FFG was great, steel liners, G10, liner lock, tip up or tip down 4 way carry.... whats the catch? I'm looking at a 350.00 knife /sigh......no, wait..... 35.00 knife?!??!

ordered....express delivery please and thank you....

It just got delivered about an hour ago... it IS everything I'd wanted, in an affordable form so I can use it hard and not cry if it gets damaged, broken or lost ( never lost a knife yet, knock on wood ) ..... I'm so impressed that I finally found a viable replacement than I'm going now to order 2 more at that price just to put back in case they ever discontinue them and I need a replacement.

I had read horror stories about the Chinese Spydercos.. fit and finish is fantastic... not a mid tech or custom no, but for an EDC for a working man to open bags of dog food with....hell yea.

Sorry... just excited, I REALLY have been thru 50+ knives looking for an EDC that felt ( right ) to me.... I'm glad to have finally found it!

So I guess, moral of the story.... literally the cheapest knife I've bought in 5 years to replace my EDC has finally replaced my EDC.... don't let yourself get too hung up on what works for other folks, or whats new and cool.....sometimes perfection is easier to come by than you think.... and you come to realize you've been over thinking it for years...

LOL

Peace!

I've owned a Reselience for a few years now , it's to big for me to carry at work etc , but it comes into its own when I'm camping and on holidays overseas .
Mine get used for food prep and general chores at those times and it handles the tasks brilliantly

Ken

I picked one up just to check one out and it's an okay knife and for the price it can't be beat.
I put an acid wash finish on it, sharpened it up and threw it in the console of my car. It's easily my most used knife.

I'm actually surprised we don't hear about the Resilience more often here. It isn't a knife for me, but it's hard to imagine there wouldn't be more fans like the Tenacious and Resilience, but like you, many users want a Military size.

I traded my Resilience for a Kershaw Junk Yard Dog about 4 years ago. I finally got another one this year along with a G-10 Cara Cara. I like them a lot. They are such incredible values. I am going to keep them both this time!

Glad that you found the right EDC!

I have one well maintained (sharpened & polished bevel) and one pre-needed replacement.
Have since moved on to Endura, I like lockback better ;), or Triad for that matter.

Still have them but rarely used/carried, I guess my taste changed.

Your post and Ken's rekindled sweet memories:)

I got my Resilience as my entry-level Spyderco, because I thought I should at least try one Spydie if I wanted to consider myself a Knife nut, and it was cheap enough in case I didn't like it or decided to keep with my other brands.

Hell, I didn't expect the brilliant folder I was getting for $60 (European overinflated prices). Even at that price, it amazed me.

...the smoothest of my Spydies, the best linerlock I have and the blade shape/size makes it an excellent food prep. folder. Also waves better than any other modded Spyderco I have, by far.

It is more aesthetically pleasing than most Spydies to my eye, also. Thin, curved, wide and pretty blade. I also find it weird there isn't much talk about it.
