Looking at getting either. Small difference in price doesn't matter.

1. Recon 1 plain clip-point

+ strong lock
+ nice belly and fine point
+ nice handle
+ very grippy
= finish wears easily but can be removed easily
- tip up only, I like to carry IWB tip down
- G10 rough under tight clip
- two-handed closing

2. Spyderco Resilience

+ big blade
+ full flat grind
+ far easier to open and close
= not as grippy but OK
- large detent means possible unintended liner release
- not as strong a lock but probably doesn't matter one bit
- screws strip

I've never had a problem one hand closing the tri-ad. I must have gotten a good one. The recon is AUS8. However, I do find that the heat treat on the CS aus8 helps a lot. Mine (American Lawman) takes and holds a really good edge.

I have the Resiliences little brother the Tenacious and love it. I have never had a problem releasing the lock on accident. opens nice and fast. closes with one hand easily. I love mine.

Recon 1 G-10 issue is easily taken care of with some 1k sandpaper and 10 seconds of rubbing. 2 handed closing? If you want to use two hands you can but it can be done without trouble one handed.

Spidie, screws strip???

Personally I really like the new cold steel folders so I vote Recon 1.

I just ordered a Resilience myself, I've never had a real Spyderco(just a Byrd Crossblill), so I'm super excited. I think I will really enjoy the long ffg blade. I find myself cooking almost everytime I visit my parents, and I can not use their kitchen knives.
I've also been having a hard time getting excited about any Cold Steel products as of late, except for maybe the new Voyager clip point.

I don't own any Spydercos or CS products as of yet.

The longer blade and cleaner, less-aggressive lines of the Resilience appeal to me and it gets great reviews apart from the screws on the clip. Why didn't they just use the same screws as in their other knives, or did they?

The CS looks like it has a great grip though. I just think it's going to be a lot harder to flick open and closed than the Spyderco seeing as it's essentially beefed-up lockback.

I vote Recon 1 unless you need a long bladed slicer. I have the tenacious and persistence and an older recon 1. The ten/per sure are betters slicers but for toughness, I'd go recon 1.

Bob, as a good BF member, I have both. I would say that they are in different categories in terms of feel. And to some degree function. The Recon 1 engenders words like stout, heavy duty and folding prybar. It is a little stiffer to open and close than the Resilience, but its not a biggy. Its just a real solid knife. You could use it to dig a hole in hard dirt, and not have second thoughts.

The Resilience is smoother and easier to open, and to me is more of a moderate usage (if there is such a term) slicer. When you deploy it, you think of "folding sword" with a lot of blade sticking out there. Very smooth opening and flickable, which I could never do with the Recon 1.

I use and enjoy them both. They are just different in feel, and thats something that is hard to communicate over the internet.

Bottom line is that the Recon 1 makes you want to go pry something apart, then dig a foxhole, and hack off a tree limb. The Resilience makes you want to deconstruct a cardboard box with its incredible FFG profile.

Even though its big, the Resilience seems to be a little less obtrusive in my pocket.
