I just ordered a Ban Tang custom with "cord wrapped handles". It was the model I wanted in steel (Elmax!) that I wanted. Other than Strider knives, which were just wrapped in paracord, I've never had a cord-wrapped handled knife before.

I believe that Ban Tang might use resin or epoxy or something on his but I don't know - some vendors describe the handles as "cord wrapped" and others as "resin cord-wrapped". Does anyone know if Ban Tang's cord wrapped handles are hardened with something and therefore permanent? Or are they removeable?

How durable are multiple layered cord wrapped handles? Can I wash my knife in hot soapy water after carrying it in my sweaty waistband or will additional care be needed?

A description would be great, thanks in advance!

I carry one of Ban's cord wrapped knives every day and have done so for years. The wraps are hardened and extremely durable. They also have excellent purchase in slick conditions.

I have been carrying Ban's knives for years. In my opinion some of the best real world knives available anywhere.

Thank you for responding, that's what I wanted to hear. I believe I ordered the same knife as you have, but chisel ground Elmax. I wanted something just a little bit longer (and flatter) than a clinch pick.

You won't be sorry. His knives are brilliant, under-rated and super well priced.

Here is my other edc, also heavily carried in A2.

It arrived. This is great - it's incredibly light, feels weightless in the sheath, with a clip I'll be able to carry this in gym shorts. With the 'static cord' tie I can't even feel it in my waistband.

Shown next to an old favorite, a Janich designed Blackhawk Kalista (with the sheath I made for it), as well as a newer Clinch Pick. It's about the same size as the Kalista, but much lighter and thinner. The Pikal is exactly what I wanted, just a little bit more handle than the Clinch Pick without being much longer than 7" overall.

I'll be making new sheaths for the Clinch Pick and Ban Tang this weekend. The BT sheath is OK, but it's thin kydex and I prefer the retention of thicker material.

I love chisel grinds. They look interesting, and if ground thin enough they cut shockingly deep. Also, way easier to touch up.

(I put new edges on the Kalista and Clinch Pick with the Wicked Edge, they cut waaaay better now. Ban Tang's edge needs no improvement, it really is 'scary sharp')

Been very much enjoying my Evio Shivs from Ban Tang, one of them with G10 grip scales and a V-grind, the other cord-wrapped with a zero grind. Both of them are beautiful blades, and carry very easily--although I do have to admit, pocket carrying a small fixed blade (as opposed to wearing IWB) is taking getting used to. Recently picked up his Shivworks custom collaboration, the Barracuda (which also has a matching blunt steel trainer available)...and that's a wonderful knife. Recommended! 😃🤗😊
