Resin soaking an already wrapped handle?

I picked up a good quality Japanese style sword here lately and it has simple nylon braided wrap on the handle. I know a lot of custom makers soak the nylon in resin to make it more durable and long lasting. Question is, how does one go about doing this on the handle? And what kind of resin works best? How is it mixed? How is it applied. Thanks so much for any info.
