Some time ago (25 yrs?) I started to collect the miniature bottles of Single Malt. As they were not sold in Ohio, it was only possible to add to the collection when we traveled. I used to keep a list in my wallet, two lists really, one for the minis and the other for standard bottles; at one point I had over ten bottles to choose from for sipping. The miniatures have never been opened, and number forty nine at present.

The one I especially recommend in the bunch is the Balvenie 15y Single Barrel. It's in my top 5 Whiskies...also in the top 3....as a matter of fact it's my number 2 after the Old Pulteney 17y

The liquor stores sell regular bottles. It's the bars that use the minis. Supposedly it's to keep the bar from cheating the customer out of the booze he's paid for (i.e., a short shot).

It was... up until about a year or so back. We changed the law to allow free pour. But we were indeed the only and last hold out other than the Airlines until then.

I agree with Crafft...that Balvenie 15 from 1 barrel is VERY nice. Goes great with a nice stick, say a Fuente or something from a little further south.
