Many of us have knives from Busse or Scrap Yard with the resiprene C handles and like them for many reasons . So what I'm asking is , what is YOUR main reasons for liking these handles so much ?

I'm going to sit back here a bit before I post mine to see if there are others who have realized one of my main reasons .

So lets hear it people

1- they make the knife extremely light weight. A basic 11 and an esee 5 weigh the same amount.
2- shock absorption.
3- grippyness when wet. Smooth g10 and micarta are a bit slippery sometimes.
4- makes the knife affordable!
5- not a conductor of cold. Makes it great for barehanded use in the cold
6- great grip when your hand is tired. Res c just really grips well with bare hands and that grippyness helps when you are fatigued from chopping or making hard cuts.

frakking love it! good grip, light weight and it won't kill your hand once hitting that hard wood!

Its so Squishy

KalEl nailed it!

He's taunting us...Superman's hands don't get tired or sore.

Another thing on the light weight is that it shifts the balance forward onto the blade. I find that a Basic 9 or Battle Rat easily out-chop their equivalent exposed tang/micarta handled brethren.

I agree . All those things are very true about the resiprene C handle .

Of all the fixed blade knives I have had untill I bought my Basic 6LE (my first Busse or Busee kin) , I liked the handle on my Ontario TAK-1 the best . I mean for size and shape for MY personal hand fit . Well once I got my Basic 6 I found the handle even more comfortable , but also the same size as the TAK-1 . When held up one against the other the handle length and shape are very close to the same .

So one of biggest reasons for likeing the resiprene C handle is that I KNOW that the handle is the exact same on any of the mid to large sized knives . My basic 6 and my 711 have the exact same handle . As would a scrapper 6 , SOD or Dogfather and many others . For ME at least , this means I can buy ANY of Busse kin knives knowing before I even get it that I will be really happy with the handle . This can not be said for every other handle even by Busse or Swamp Rat , not to mention other companies who often have a different shape and size handle on nearly every knife .

This not to say that none resiprene handles are not comprotable , but there's no way to know till you actually hold it . I find knowing and not maybe having to resell a big plus .

Chop away for an hour without wearing a glove and you'll understand. Res-C ROCKS!

My reason for liking Res-C is because it’s used on the two best models to ever come out of Busse Combat ;) :

I spy with my little eye

a B7? Nice!

And Niven/Pournelle. Good stuff.

Besides comfort and all the things KalEl wrote about for me the main reason to use res-C handles is their size. They are smaller than micarta/G-10 handles on larger busses. I have quite small hands and for me the handles on almost all large busses (with the exception of NMSFNO handle after some sanding :-)) are too thick and generally too large. With Res-C handles it's much different. They are perfect! That's why I sold all my micarta handled big busse and got myself a battle rat and a B-11 (which is on it's way to me).

The only thing I should add to what Superman said is that they're not too grippy, I know what it's like to have your skin torn off by some other rubber like handles that are overly aggressive.

Yes, the Kraton family (Cold Steel, SOG, etc.) of polymers is hygroscopic and gets slicker as the oil and sweat from your hands permeates it; and further--because of that tendency--it tends to dry your hands out rather like working with cardboard or concrete, and your skin is much more prone to abrasion and tearing when dried out. I've worked my hands to bleeding several times in the old days with Kraton handled machetes. It's important to note that there are many variations of Kraton, and some (like what Fallkniven uses for their rubber handles) are "harder" and better for prolonged use, but none come anywhere close to Resiprine C for comfort, stability in high temperature or overall durability.

It's cumfy. Like a feathertop mattress protector. Using them is like chopping with a cloud in your hand.
