I watched a video of a guy in a foreign country etching a picture on a knife blade. He used some kind of powder, gold colored mixed with something. Then he used a stylus to scratch the picture onto the blade. anyone have an idea of what he was using. All the writing on the containers was greek to me.

Thank you for your help. I have been Googling for a couple of hours and found nothing specific. I asked because in one of the videos I watched the guy was spraying something on his blade. It looked like paint, but who knows.

Check CuriosityShow: etching on tools. The host does apply some paint like stuff.
 
It's beyond my skill level but however it's done, it looks BEAUTIFUL! Pure art.

Didn't harden the steel but depending on the price, I'd still consider buying one.
