Resizing pics en masse?

Went to 10MP mode on my camera today for a pic, and forgot to switch it back. I've got about 70 pics that are 4.9 to 5MB each(file sizes twice as big as any I've taken before?). They don't show in email-have to be opened individually, and I can only send 2 at a time with a 10MB limit on attachments. They won't load here 'cause they're way too big. Tried a couple on imageshack, and they won't show the final pic on the site, or show up as anything but a red x when I tried the code here with the tags in a post preview.
I see there's a site you can resize pics individually with, but that would take hours.
Any hints from someone less of a computer retard than I am?
Any way to resize an entire folder of pics at a time?

I think Irfanview can resize photos by folder. Not positive about that, but it's a good program and worth looking into.

http://www.irfanview.com/

From the Irfanview Help file:
Batch Conversion:
Select the Output Format at bottom left. This works just like Save and Save As. The Options button lets you choose from the various file format specific save options, just like the Save and Save As dialog.

Use the Set advanced options button to apply many special operations to the images during conversion. These options are much like their versions on the Image Menu. The options are:

Crop, Resize, Change color depth, Auto adjust colors, Horizontal flip, Vertical flip, Rotate left, Rotate right, Convert to greyscale, Negative, Sharpen, Brightness, Contrast, Gamma correction, Saturation, Color balance, etc.

Hint: for Batch Resize: If you set both, width and height, to e.g. 640 and activate the preserve aspect ratio option, the result image dimensions are: width = max. 640, height = max. 640, proportional.

You can also resize batches of photos using ViewNX. It's a program that comes with Nikon cameras, or you can download it free from the Nikon website.

Photobucket automatically resizes pictures that are too large. But uploading could take forever...

XNView is a free program that can also do batch processing. When I used Windows it was one of my favourite graphics programs for browsing and basic editing.

As per your photos, personally I set my camera to the highest resolution possible and if I want to upload stuff, I just resize the intended pics and save them as separate files. Might as well have as good quality originals as you can... you can always downsize, but you can't reclaim detail the camera never took with a lower resolution.

I use the lightest program I could find: Imgresizer. It does exactly what it says.
In addition, you can change file type.

Weird. Could have sworn I posted last night thanking all of you guys for the suggestions, and additionally Bob for taking time to get those instructions and put them here for me:confused:
Well, thanks again!

I had NikonView with my old camera, and my newer one came with a disc, so I may be able to use that.
Also downloaded the irfanview to try, and since eygen's suggestion looks simple and is only $7, may try that, too, and see which I like best of them all for future use.

Hmm, the image resizer I use is freeware :p
The program I use isn't in any google results, so I guess it's not a really well known program. Homepage here.
Try it before you spend any money on programs you might not need.

Just tried it, and it works GREAT. Exactly what I wanted, but it also puts a huge "watermark", which is text all the way across the middle on every pic unless you register--for $59.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

edit: I uninstalled it, and am going to go back through and see if I missed something.
$39 per year, or $59 unlimited. I may actually pay for it after seeing how good it works. Have to try these other ones out first.

This is what I went with. Got the disc out that came with my most recent camera, and after loading the Software Suite, it gave the option for NX, which I downloaded.
Also works great. Converted 101 pics to the same size imageshack uses for forums and websites in a couple of minutes.
Thanks again, everybody:thumbup:

That is REALLY weird. I downloaded it from that webpage, and I've been using it for more than 2 years now. I don't know, maybe they updated it.
I've never had one of those water marks, nor did it ask me to pay for anything. It has to be a different version now that I think about it.

Anyway, I uploaded it for you (it's a stand alone .exe), you can give it a try. Download link here.
