So my friend is a veterinarian and she has to burn cow horns so they don't grow back. This releases smoke that really does a number on her lungs. I know this isn't knife related but I thought that there are many people here who work with different kinds of bone who might have some advice.

What kind of respirator filter would be best for this job?

I work with a lot of bone/horn/antler. I wear a 3M 7063 respirator from the Depot. Should help your friend, I imagine she's allergic to the smoke? There is also a caustic paste that can be used on calves buttons (horns) instead of burning em. Cow horn is basically compressed hair. We burn that stuff all the time and don't seem to have any problems. The wife sticking our iron on a new yearling bull we just bought:

This smoke is real common at a branding:

But its what we do. Hope the respirator helps your friend.
