I just got back from the dentists office because of a constant tooth pain and I need a respirator that wont irritate my mouth. The respirator did not cause the problem but is making it much worse.

I use a half face 3m respirator and the dentist told me the seal on the top is probably irritating my teeth. I am in constant pain and this is no fun.

Do the 3m 6000 series (6900 is the one I want) masks seal with as much pressure around the mouth? They are a full face style but still have the mouth seal. They don't seem like they will put so much pressure on my upper lip area.

I am also considering the aircap. Is it safe to use around G10 or carbon dust?

Full face has a removable inner nose peice. Remove that and you're set. Also the silicone type half face has minimal pressure. Make sure you get fit tested prior to using any respirator though. good luck.

Oh. also the full face may need the powered air motor and battery if you plan on being annoyed by lens fog. cheers

If you have any more questions on respiratory protection let me know. I am an OSH Officer so this info is readily available.

check out the $68.00 powered air mask at woodcraft . Since it is powered air you will not need to wear it so tight .

Thank you very much for your help. I may get the full face mask and remove the mouth piece, that sounds like a great option.

Fogging... a bad problem when I work outside in the winter but maybe a warmer shop will help out on that.

It looks good, I looked it up and need to do more research. I like the idea of a positive pressure mask because I don't shave very often and they work very well from what I understand. Thanks!

The positive pressure masks, with proper filters, are good enough for beryllium dust.

I actually have beryllium ore so maybe I'll need one! Just kidding because it isn't a threat in the form I get it in (Tiffany Stone) but funny I have some. I really want the 3m positive pressure mask but it costs too much for me to afford right now. I like it because I do epoxy work and it provides full protection.

Thanks everybody for the help! I took a day off from the shop and my tooth is already feeling better, now I just need to go buy a better mask!
