Hey guys,

I sent my first knife out for HT and getting my plans ready for the micarta handle and I find that I need a respirator.

I am not sure the different requirements that I need on a respirator to work micarta. I would like to get something that can be used for woodworking as well.

I ask because I have only used the throw away masks and keep seeing that micarta needs a respirator. I started looking around and find that everyone agrees that you need one but not specifics on requirements.

Suggestions on different types and specs that are needed to work with really find dust like micarta produces?

Thanks,

Yeah, I see that, but what are the specs that are needed when working with Micarta, Metal, and stabilized woods?

The important info that is lacking is the specifics about the filter..... I need to make sure it filters the correct sized particles.

The 7000 is a silicone mask, that's like the one I use and like (mine is the 7503). The 03 is the large, 7502, med., etc. I also have one similar to the home depot one you listed, made of rubber. It's a 3M 5700 series or something like that. I noticed the rubber ones are sized smaller. Both of mine are large size, but the silicone one (7503) is much roomier.

Get one that fits and is comfortable. Silicone is more comfortable than rubber, and may offer a slightly better seal, but it has to fit first. Get a good seal and good cartridges (p100 + vapor and/or both).

I have 3M vapor cartriges (p100) that cost $5 and I have $30 3M cartridges that have a little more air resistance on inhalation and are probably protecting me a little better, but I'm not sure from what.

I can't smell acetone through either.

I have a local Airgas that I went to so I could check the fit.

Sweet, searching for that gave me the classifications of different filter types that I was looking for. Thank you,
